CanSupport raises funds for palliative care for cancer patients through charity dinner and dance
Under the soft glow of city lights, an evening of generosity and grace unfolded at the Whispering Willows, Zirakpur, on Saturday, where supporters gathered for a cause that touches countless lives—palliative care for cancer patients. The annual charity dinner and dance, hosted by CanSupport is a heartfelt testament to the power of community and compassion.
Guests arrived in dazzling evening wear, welcomed by the gentle hum of the Rodrigues band. As they sipped drinks and exchanged warm embraces, the atmosphere was one of both celebration and purpose. The event has been hosted annually since 2023 in Chandigarh by Cansupport, a WHO awarded NGO providing home-based palliative care providers to cancer patients, founded in 1996 by Harmala Gupta, a cancer survivor and social activist.
With the founder-president, Harmala Gupta and renowned nutritionist Dr Deeba Arif in presence, the evening commenced with a gourmet meal, featuring artfully plated delicacies. The evening featured heart-warming stories of resilience and compassion while highlighting the importance of improving end-of-life care ensuring dignity and relief in the most challenging of times. The highlight of the event was the screening of a short film about the history of CanSupport featuring their programmes and patient testimonies.
"While promoting awareness of the rise in incidence of cancer in Punjab and Haryana, CanSupport aims to raise funds for palliative care for underprivileged cancer patients through this event. Women play a major role as caregivers - more power and strength to them especially on Women’s Day!" says Mohini Daljeet Singh, managing committee member of CanSupport.
Funds raised from the charity dinner will go towards CanSupport’s efforts to expand its palliative care services and offer support to families and caregivers.
