Diljit’s Punjab 95 stalls, again, owing to censor issues
The release of Diljit Dosanjh’s highly anticipated film Punjab 95 has been stalled again owing to unexplained circumstances. The actor-singer had broken the news two days back that the film based on slained human rights activist Jaswant Khalra will be released internationally on February 7, 2025 without cuts.
The film has been stopped from release in India owing to Censor issues and on Monday evening, the actor updated on his social media platform that Punjab 95 will not be releasing on February 7 globally due to unforeseen circumstances.
Apologizing to his fans, Diljit stated on his Instagram, “We are sorry and it pains us to inform you that Punjab ’95 will not release on 7th Feb due to circumstances beyond our control.”
Diljit Dosanjh-starrer ‘Punjab 95’, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, faced setbacks since early 2023 when it was first announced that the film will be screened at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival.
Few days after announcing the news, the film was removed from the line-up of Toronto International Film Festival, due to Censor Board of Film certification in India raising objections, demanding certain cuts and changing the name of protagonist Jaswant Khalra.
The film, which was earlier titled “Ghallughara”, had hit the roadblock after the Censor Board delayed its clearance with a request to change the title and content. Directed by Honey Trehan, the film also stars Arjin Rampal and breakout Punjabi actor Suvinder Vicky of Netflix’s Kohrra fame.
