It’s pizzas on the mind for Google, and the popular and often goofy Google Doodle celebrated one of the world’s most popular food—pizzas.

Google Doodle explained its dedication thus: “On this day in 2007, the culinary art of Neapolitan “Pizzaiuolo” was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.

The interactive puzzle offers users some of the most popular toppings from around the world—such as margarita, pepperoni, and white pizzas—and asks you to slice up. There’s a catch though—the slicing needs to be very specific and the more precise you make it, the more stars you earn.

The modern pizza is credited to have birthed in Naples in Italy sometime in the 1700s, even though iterations of flatbread with toppings have been a favoured dish around the world for centuries.

“It's here that the story of pizza begins: one that is baked together with centuries of global migration, economic development, and technological evolution,” the Google Doodle says by way of explanation. “Today, an estimated five billion pizzas (350 slices per second in the U.S. alone) are consumed internationally each year. No matter how you slice it, pizza is here to stay.”
