Ali Asgar will soon be seen as Akbar in Star Bharat’s new show Akbar Ka Bal Birbal.

How will you define your career of three decades?

Honestly, I did not realise that three decades have passed by. Mentally, I still consider myself as a newcomer so that I can improve. I am still hungry for new roles, multiple shades of characters. I have no complaints and am grateful to all my fans, producers and channels for giving me work.

What do you think have been some of your top achievements?

I can’t comment much about that, but one thing that I got is loads of love and admiration from my viewers. I am grateful for that.

Playing a title role in a show, do you feel extra responsibility on your shoulders?

I have never taken pressure for any roles. The length of the character or the duration never bothered me. I perform without worries. But this time in Akbar Ka Bal Birbal the costume and the crown are a bit heavy for my liking!

Which side of King Akbar will be seen in this show?

We are concentrating only on the humorous side of Akbar; I would say the situation is funny. But whenever the samrat is in the darbar, he handles everything very professionally. But, yes, this show will bring a smile on your face.

You are great when it comes to comedy. Who has inspired you in this genre?

One and only one — Mehmood sahab. I have grown up watching his craft, I am very fortunate that I have worked under his direction also.

As an actor do you still have the phobia of getting typecast?

Yes, I want to do a variety of roles. Unfortunately, we have the trend of getting typecast, even our seniors have faced that. But I am okay as long as I am getting to perform.

Who has been the biggest inspiration in life for you?

My family; my father always supported me in my decisions. I was supposed to fly abroad for work, but my family told me to stay back and follow

my passion.

How are the vibes on the set?

The vibes are very positive. Unfortunately, we are working in a pandemic situation so we are all following the guidelines strictly. Once we finish the scenes, we get back to our rooms. We are scared but all are excited to resume work.

How do you unwind yourself?

My unwinding time is with my kids — my son Nuyaan and daughter Adaa.

If you want to learn something new, what would it be and why?

I feel in acting I am learning so many new things. There is so much to explore in this craft. Now it is too late to learn something new!
