Mithun Chakraborty hospitalised in Kolkata, undergoes surgery — West Bengal CM pays visit
The veteran actor had chosen to keep the hospitalisation private
Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata, where he underwent a surgical procedure to remove a metal plate implanted following an earlier incident. The 74-year-old is said to be in stable condition and is expected to be discharged soon.
The hospitalisation came to light after West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the actor on Friday and shared photographs from the meeting on social media. Speaking to the press afterwards, Adhikari revealed that the procedure was performed on Thursday night and that Chakraborty had specifically chosen not to publicise it. "He did not want publicity over the development. He is doing well. Will be released soon," he said.
On the work front, Chakraborty has two high-profile releases lined up — Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 and Rajinikanth's Jailer 2. The National Film Award winner, who rose to iconic status with Disco Dancer in 1982, has had a career spanning over five decades and more than 350 films in Hindi and Bengali. Beyond cinema, he has been one of BJP's most prominent faces in West Bengal.
