Protesters rally in Denmark and Greenland against Trump annexation threat
Protesters in Denmark and Greenland demonstrated on Saturday against President Donald Trump's demand that the Arctic island be ceded to the US and called for it to be left to determine its own future. Trump says Greenland is vital to US security because of its strategic location and large mineral deposits and has not ruled out using force to take it. European nations this week sent military personnel to the island at Denmark's request. In Copenhagen, demonstrators chanted "Greenland is not for sale" and held up slogans such as "No means No" and "Hands off Greenland" alongside the territory's red-and-white flag as they marched to the US embassy. Some wore red baseball caps resembling the "Make America Great Again" caps of Trump supporters, but with the slogan "Make America Go Away".
Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni wins seventh term as opposition rejects results
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni won his seventh term with 71.65 per cent of votes, according to official results on Saturday, in an election marred by internet shutdown and fraud claims by his youthful challenger, who rejected the outcome and called for peaceful protests. The musician-turned-politician best known as Bobi Wine took 24.72 per cent of the vote, the final results showed. Wine, whose real name is Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has condemned what he described as an unfair electoral process and alleged abductions of his polling agents. He said he had rejected the “fake results” and urged Ugandans to peacefully protest until the “rightful results are announced.” Wine said he had to escape to avoid arrest by security forces who stormed his house Friday night. His party said earlier he was forcefully taken away in an army helicopter but police denied it.
GRAP-4 curbs reimposed in Delhi-NCR as air quality turns 'severe'
The Centre's pollution watchdog on Saturday invoked curbs under Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR as the capital's air quality deteriorated to enter the 'severe' category, according to officials. "The AQI of Delhi, which was recorded as 400 on Saturday at 4 PM, exhibited a sharp increasing trend and has been recorded at 428 at 8 PM owing to a western disturbance, highly unfavourable weather and meteorological conditions, and lack of dispersal of pollutants," said a senior official of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). "Keeping in view the prevailing trend of air quality and relevant factors and in an effort to prevent further deterioration of air quality in the region, the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP unanimously decides to invoke all actions as envisaged under Stage-IV of extant GRAP – 'Severe+' Air Quality (DELHI AQI > 450), with immediate effect, in the entire NCR, as a proactive measure," the official said.
Experts call for HPV vaccination, screening scaling to eliminate cervical cancer
Government and cancer institutions on Saturday pitched for expanding HPV vaccination, improving screening coverage through self-sampling HPV DNA testing at AIIMS here. Speaking at the first national summit on Elimination of Cervical Cancer in India, the participants signalled commitment to translate policy intent into on-ground action. The conference was organised by the departments of Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and Onco-Anaesthesia and Palliative Medicine, and DRBRAIRCH, AIIMS. The speakers spoke of three pillars in HPV diagnosis and care. They called for scaling HPV vaccination to strengthen screening through the high-performance HPV DNA testing, which involves self-sampling. The summit advocated establishing uniform national standard operating procedures and streamlining treatment and follow-up pathways to ensure equitable, high-quality care nationwide.
