Faridabad sanitation workers’ protest: Garbage dumped outside Municipal Corporation office
The protest has entered its 11th day, with sanitation services severely affected in several areas of Faridabad city
With heaps of garbage piling up across several parts of Faridabad, protesting sanitation employees have intensified their agitation, virtually taking the city to ransom over pending demands related to regularisation, salaries and employee benefits.
In a dramatic escalation late last night, sanitation workers allegedly loaded garbage onto tractor-trailers and dumped it outside the Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) office, including near the Commissioner’s main gate, to protest against what they called the administration’s “continued neglect” of their demands.
Videos of the incident surfaced on social media showing workers unloading waste on the road outside the civic body office. The protest has entered its 11th day, with sanitation services severely affected in several areas of the city.
Employee leader Balbir said the workers had repeatedly raised their demands but neither the government nor the administration had responded seriously. He warned that if the demands were not accepted soon, the agitation would intensify further and garbage could even be dumped outside ministers’ residences in the coming days.
The protesting workers are demanding regularisation of contractual employees, abolition of the contract system, timely payment of salaries, implementation of ESI and PF facilities, availability of safety equipment and equal pay for equal work.
Workers said the agitation would continue until concrete assurances were given by the authorities.
The ongoing strike has led to garbage accumulation at multiple locations across Faridabad, causing inconvenience to residents and raising concerns over sanitation and public health. Residents in several localities complained of foul smell and worsening civic conditions as waste collection remained disrupted.
"Everybody has a right to protest but cannot cause any kind of damage to infrastructure or hold the city to ransom. We are identifying the accused, who will be dealt with accordingly," said ULB Minister Vipul Goel.
