Farmers oppose proposed airport in Mandi

MANDI: The Balh Bachao Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Mandi, is opposing the proposed airport in the Balh valley of Mandi district.

Mandi, November 25

The Balh Bachao Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Mandi, is opposing the proposed airport in the Balh valley of Mandi district. They said it would destroy the 3,500 bigha agriculture land, which is their sole source of livelihood. A large number of people would be displaced from the area.

Joginder Walia, president of the samiti, said the government should construct the airport at some other place in the district, where the destruction of agriculture land is less. “The government should talk to farmers because they are apprehensive of their future,” he added.

“We have submitted a memorandum to CM and urged him to have discussion with farmers,” he said. TNS
