Fire at sweets shop exposes unauthorised construction

Tribune News Service

Amritsar, January 21

The ongoing illegal construction by Bansal sweets got exposed, when a fire broke out at the site here on Tuesday.

Owner of the renowned sweet shop has encroached the house line area in front of the shop, where the construction was going on. The ongoing work was hid by a plastic tarpaulin wrapped around the building.

According to information, a spark from a electric wire led to the fire. Workers had a narrow escape, as the plastic tarpaulin caught fire immediately. The bamboos, which were being used for shuttering, were damaged in fire. The fire was doused by the workers, before the arrival of the fire brigade.

The owner of the sweet shop is reportedly a close relative of an influential political leader. The same person has also encroached the house line area outside his other outlets on the same road. Though the issue is in the notice of MC officials, no action has been taken against the person and the construction continued unabated in the broad daylight.
