As part of 31st National Road Safety Week,which is being held from January 11 to 17, the traffic police wing on Thursday appealed to minors to not to drive vehicles.

An awareness march in this regard was also flagged off from BMC Chowk, in which a total of 300 students from various schools of the district covered several areas to spread awareness about traffic rules.

The rally regarding the traffic rules was held for the schoolchildren. The NCC cadets present during the rally also distributed pamphlets.

ACP (Traffic) Harinder Singh said the traffic police also distributed free helmets among women and men who sans helmets. To spread the message on clean and green environment, the police also greeted commuters with green plants and urged them to increase the green cover.

Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Nayan Jassal also distributed 50 free helmets outside the DAC.

Dr Jassal said the maximum number of accident victims were two-wheeler riders and most of the deaths occur because of head injuries, adding that most of the riders did not understand the importance of wearing a helmet while commuting.
