The Sarabha Nagar police today claimed to have busted an interstate gang of vehicle thieves with the arrest of four suspects. The police have recovered nine stolen vehicles from their possession.
The suspects have been identified as Himanshu Dhiman (23) of Field Ganj, Udit Sharma (20) of Kharar, Gurpreet Singh (25) of Kurali, and Sourav Ali (20) of Kharar.
Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal, DCP (Detective) SS Dhindsa, ADCP Gurpreet Purewal, ACP (West) Sameer Verma and Sarabha Nagar SHO Madhu Bala conducted a press conference on the matter.
The CP said the members of the gang would do a recce of old cars parked in residential areas. They would steal these cars by using duplicate keys. They mainly stole cars from Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Mohali cities.
After stealing the cars, they would park them in parking lots and wait for a customer.
The police recovered many vehicles stolen from Ludhiana (an Esteem, two Accents and a Bolero), and Mohali (two Honda City cars, an Esteem and a Tata Safari).
The police also recovered an Activa scooter which the thieves used to do a recce.
Verma said the gang had stolen a total of 14 cars in the past few months, of which five were recovered by the owners from nearby areas soon after theft.
