Gangster facing 10 criminal cases lands in police net

Notorious gangster Gurdeep Singh, alias Deepa Dhandari, has been nabbed by the CIA-1 wing of the city police. The police have recovered one .32-bore countrymade pistol, 12 cartridges and one motorcycle with a fake registration no. plate from the gangster.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Rakesh Agrawal, ADCP (Crime) Dayama Harish and ACP (Crime) Mandeep Singh addressed a press conference regarding his arrest.

Agrawal said Deepa was already facing 10 criminal cases and in some cases, he was also declared a proclaimed offender by the court.

On June 19, 2019, the accused snatched Rs 3.5 lakh at gunpoint from Partap Chowk. On October 6, 2019, he attempted to loot cash from a medical shop in Dhandari and also fired at the store owner.

On October 9 last year, Deepa stole a car from Dhandari Kalan. The same day, his gang took away a Swift car at gunpoint from a businessman on Humbran Road. When the Muktsar police tried to stop them at a naka, members of the gang opened fire at the police.

On November 14 last year, the accused had fired at a man after snatching his mobile phone.

The CP said the accused was also facing three cases of drug smuggling registered against him at the Sadar, Division 5 and Focal Point police stations.

One of the gang members Amarjit Singh was recently nabbed by the police. As he was suffering from AIDS, he was handed over to his family. He died after some time.
