2 women 'assaulted' for feeding community dogs in Gurugram society; investigation under way
Victims allege they were slapped and their phones snatched; society members claim feeding at entrance poses safety concerns
A dispute between two groups over feeding community dogs escalated into a violent clash on Thursday night at Shri Vardhman Mantra Society in Sector 67. It is alleged that two women who arrived to feed the dogs were assaulted, had their hair pulled and an attempt was made to snatch their mobile phones. A video of the incident has surfaced, and the police are investigating the matter based on the footage.
In a complaint lodged with the Sector 65 police, the aggrieved women stated that they were feeding community dogs outside the society around 9.30 pm on Thursday. At the time, some local residents arrived and tried to stop them. The women alleged that when they objected, some individuals surrounded and assaulted them.
During the incident, they were slapped, their hair was pulled and attempts were made to snatch their mobile phones to prevent them from recording the incident.
The complainants stated that they regularly feed the dogs, but some individuals persistently oppose this and threaten them. They alleged that similar disputes had occurred several times in the past. The women have handed over videos of the incident to the police, which allegedly show the assault and scuffle.
Meanwhile, some residents of the society have denied these allegations and presented their own perspective. They said dog feeders feed the animals at the society’s main entrance and outside the flats, causing dogs to congregate and compromising the safety of children and the elderly. They claimed that despite repeated requests, the feeding is not carried out at a safe location.
Some residents also alleged that outsiders are brought in to exert pressure whenever objections are raised. Following the incident, both parties have lodged written complaints with the police.
“The matter is under investigation. We are examining CCTV footage from the scene and viral videos to clarify how the dispute began and identify those involved in the altercation. Action will be taken after verifying the facts,” said Inspector Rambir Singh, SHO, Sector 65 police station.
