GMDA floats tender for flyover at Ambedkar Chowk to ease traffic jams on Sohna road
The proposed project, estimated to cost Rs 32 crore, aims to streamline traffic flow between Ardee City and Sohna Road in Gurugram
To decongest one of Gurugram’s busiest residential corridors, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has floated a tender for the construction of a flyover at Ambedkar Chowk, the key junction connecting Sectors 45, 46, 51 and 52.
The proposed project, estimated to cost Rs 32 crore, aims to streamline traffic flow between Ardee City and Sohna Road, a stretch that often witnesses heavy congestion during peak office hours due to rapid urbanisation and rising vehicular movement.
According to GMDA, the project will involve the construction of a 900-metre-long, four-lane flyover designed to allow uninterrupted traffic movement across the junction.
In addition, four-lane service roads will also be developed to improve local accessibility for residents and commercial establishments located along the corridor.
“Gurugram is witnessing rapid urban growth and increasing traffic demand. The proposed flyover at Ambedkar Chowk will help improve connectivity and ensure smoother traffic movement in the city,” said GMDA CEO P.C. Meena.
The authority said the project scope also includes development of surface drainage systems, pedestrian footpaths and traffic safety infrastructure such as crash barriers, signage and road markings to improve commuter safety and urban mobility standards.
Ambedkar Chowk currently acts as a critical traffic dispersal point linking Ardee City, Sohna Road and several densely populated residential sectors. Officials said increasing traffic pressure has resulted in severe bottlenecks and long delays on the stretch.
The flyover project has been targeted for completion within two years from the commencement of construction. Once operational, it is expected to significantly reduce travel delays and improve traffic dispersal across adjoining sectors.
The Ambedkar Chowk project is part of GMDA’s larger infrastructure expansion plan aimed at improving Gurugram’s road network. The authority has also recently floated a tender for a flyover at Dadi Sati Chowk between Sectors 85-86 and 89-90, while plans are underway for an underpass at Millennium City Centre Metro Station to decongest another major traffic junction in the city.
