Gurugram monsoon alert: MCG orders field inspections, mandatory app monitoring to prevent waterlogging
The civic body aims to ensure uninterrupted water flow across vulnerable stretches this season
With the monsoon season approaching, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has stepped up preparedness, with Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya mandating senior officials to conduct on-ground inspections and ensure real-time monitoring through a dedicated inspection app.
Taking a strict stance, Dahiya directed that all inspection reports be digitally recorded to maintain transparency and accountability in pre-monsoon works.
He emphasised that senior officials, including additional commissioners, joint commissioners, chief engineer, senior town planner and deputy town planners, will now be directly responsible for overseeing drainage and sewer maintenance across the city.
“Field-level monitoring will be intensified, and any negligence in execution will not be tolerated,” the commissioner said, adding that he would personally inspect multiple locations to review preparedness.
The engineering teams have already accelerated desilting, cleaning and repair of sewerage and stormwater drainage networks to prevent waterlogging during heavy rains. The civic body aims to ensure uninterrupted water flow across vulnerable stretches this season.
Sanitation push intensified
Alongside drainage works, the MCG has also strengthened its sanitation drive. Currently, 338 vehicles are deployed for door-to-door waste collection and plans are underway to further increase the fleet.
Assistant sanitation inspectors have been tasked with ensuring regular checks on collection vehicles and maintaining strict oversight in their respective areas.
Officials said garbage vulnerable points across the city are being cleaned regularly, while dust-control measures on major roads are also being intensified.
Importantly, the commissioner has ordered that payments to sanitation contractors will strictly follow Urban Local Bodies (ULB) guidelines, with GPS-based verification made mandatory. No payment will be released without GPS-backed performance data.
Crackdown on illegal dumping
In a parallel move, the MCG has ordered stricter action against illegal dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, particularly along national highways and the Faridabad Road stretch.
Surveillance by the sanitation security force will be intensified and violators will face strict penalties, including vehicle seizure and heavy fines.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment, Dahiya said the goal is to make Gurugram both waterlogging-free and cleaner ahead of the monsoon, stressing that public cooperation will be key to achieving lasting results.
