Gurugram police bust interstate gang of fraudsters; 4 arrested, Rs 2.3 crore cash, gold seized
The gang had also duped Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi and Salim Khan
Gurugram police have busted a major interstate gang of fraudsters that lured people with promises of cheap gold coins. Four accused, including the mastermind, have been arrested. Cash worth over Rs 2.30 crore and around 678 grams of gold were recovered from their possession.
The gang had also duped Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi and Salim Khan, father of Salman Khan. The kingpin had also produced a Gujarati film titled ‘Love You’.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Solanki Prabhubhai Gulshanbhai alias Kalpesh alias Ravi, a resident of Vadodara in Gujarat; Pankaj Sharma, a resident of Nihal Vihar, Nangloi, Delhi; Manish Kamlesh Shah, a resident of Karelibagh, Vadodara; and Ishwar Marwadi, a resident of Ramdev Nagar, Vadodara.
The kingpin, Prabhubhai, and Pankaj Sharma were arrested from Gurugram, while Manish Shah and Ishwar Marwadi were arrested from Gujarat on Wednesday.
“Gang leader Prabhubhai has been involved in fraud for the past 25 years, with most cases reported in Mumbai and Gujarat,” said Hitesh Yadav, DCP (Crime).
He added that the gang mainly targeted educated individuals. Most members posed as poor labourers and carried 5-6 genuine gold or silver coins. They would approach wealthy individuals, claiming they had found the coins while digging, and ask them to verify their authenticity.
Once the coins were confirmed as genuine, the gang would offer larger quantities at rates of Rs 25-30 lakh per kg, creating greed among victims. Taking advantage of this, they would deliver gold-plated copper coins and flee to distant locations.
On April 1, a Gurugram-based exporter lodged a complaint at Sushant Lok police station, stating that on February 13, 2026, he was approached by an unknown person offering gold and silver coins at a cheap price. On March 2, the accused allegedly took Rs 2.49 crore in cash and around 500 grams of gold from his residence on the pretext of selling a large quantity of gold coins and handed over fake coins in return.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at Sushant Lok police station. During the investigation, the crime unit of Sector 43 arrested four members of the gang, including the kingpin.
“It has also been revealed that the main accused, Prabhubhai, has two fraud cases registered against him in Maharashtra and seven in Gujarat. We will also arrest two women members of the gang, who are currently lodged in Kota jail. Further investigation is underway to nab other members,” said DCP Yadav.
