Gurugram traffic breakthrough: New 4.2 KM elevated road to link Vatika Chowk and NH-48
The project, which stretches from Vatika Chowk to NH-48 (Delhi-Jaipur Highway), is designed to bypass major bottlenecks like Rajiv Chowk and Subhash Chowk, allowing commuters from Dwarka Expressway and Jaipur to reach their destinations without encountering a single red light
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to revolutionize the city's commute with a new 4.2-kilometer signal-free elevated corridor. With an estimated investment of 755 crore, this ambitious master plan aims to provide a permanent solution to the persistent traffic congestion on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR).
The project, which stretches from Vatika Chowk to NH-48 (Delhi-Jaipur Highway), is designed to bypass major bottlenecks like Rajiv Chowk and Subhash Chowk, allowing commuters from Dwarka Expressway and Jaipur to reach their destinations without encountering a single red light.
According to GMDA CEO PC Meena, the tender process for this elevated corridor will be finalized this month, with bids scheduled to open on April 22. The project has been meticulously planned to meet the future traffic demands of rapidly developing sectors along the SPR. Meena noted that the corridor will not only increase vehicle speeds on main roads but also significantly reduce the pressure on internal city streets. This development is expected to serve as a vital link between the Dwarka Expressway, NH-48, and the Gurugram-Sohna elevated road, benefiting hundreds of thousands of residents in New Gurugram, Golf Course Extension Road, and Sohna Road.
Key Infrastructure Details:
The main elevated corridor will feature four lanes, supported by a comprehensive ground-level road network including 3-lane primary service roads and 2-lane secondary lanes on both sides. A major highlight of the project is the construction of a grand interchange at Vatika Chowk, along with strategic two-lane up-down ramps at key junctions to ensure seamless entry and exit. GMDA officials have set a strict deadline of 2.5 years (30 months) for completion once the work is allotted. With approval from the committee headed by the Chief Minister expected shortly, ground-level construction is slated to begin soon, promising a new era of connectivity for the Delhi-NCR region.
