The arrest comes after Gurugram police added the charge of attempt to murder under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the case.

“We have arrested the car driver Kalyan Baisla from Rajasthan today. Following a thorough investigation and detailed analysis of CCTV footage, the charge of attempted murder under Section 109 of the BNS has been added to the case, which carries a provision of up to 10 years of imprisonment. Flouting the law will not be tolerated at any cost,” said Kabiraj.

Kalyan, a 32-year-old resident of Tikri Gurjar village in Palwal district, hails from a farming family. He is married and has two children. He has an elder brother, Manjeet, who runs a supplements shop in Palwal.

According to his family, Kalyan has been playing kabaddi since Class 12 and has competed at the state and national levels. He also claims to be an international kabaddi player, though this could not be independently verified.

He started the KBT Gym in Palwal city in 2020 on a rented floor. However, the gym has been closed for the past two months.

Kalyan had claimed that the collision with her on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, was merely an accident.

After the accused emerged, Shivani Chauhan, also know as Siya, released a new video on social media presenting her side of the incident.

In the video, Siya questioned why Kalyan did not stop at the scene after the collision if he was truly distressed by the incident. Siya also claimed that she was targeted because she was a female biker and that there was a deliberate attempt to stop her.

The woman alleged that her life could have been lost and that Kalyan did not even attempt to check if she was safe following the collision. She said he did not stop for even a second after hitting her with his car and that fleeing the scene made the incident even more serious.

“I feel ashamed of such people. Women feel unsafe on the roads of Delhi and Gurugram,” she added.

Siya also asked whether the two videos that had surfaced regarding the hit-and-run case constituted sufficient evidence. She said the incident was fully captured on camera, clearly showing the car hitting her bike and the driver fleeing the scene.

Additionally, a video captured by the camera of another rider following behind is also going viral. According to the account, the footage shows the moments leading up to and during the incident.

Siya is a resident of Delhi. She has completed a course in fashion designing and contested the 2022 municipal elections from Kalkaji, Delhi. Her father, Roshan Chauhan, is also a member of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the Gurugram police had registered a case at the Sector-56 police station.

“Our team is on the way and will bring the accused to Gurugram soon. Detailed information will be shared at a press conference,” said a Gurugram police spokesperson.
