Bodybuilder held for stealing jewellery from temple in Gurugram
Police have recovered the stolen gold nose ring and the bike used in the crime from the accused’s possession
A thief who stole jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from an ancient Durga Devi temple in Gurugram was arrested by police. The accused, a bodybuilder, reportedly turned to crime due to drug addiction.

A person filed a complaint at New Colony police station stating that an unknown person had stolen the goddess’s gold nose ring and chatra from the Durga Devi Temple in Pratap Nagar on the morning of April 21. A case was registered at the New Colony police station based on the complaint. The thief was captured on CCTV installed inside the temple, where he was seen praying to the goddess and then stealing the jewellery.
During investigation, the police arrested the accused on Friday night from Sector 31 area. The accused has been identified as Kapil alias Kalu (30), a resident of 12 Biswa in Gurugram village.
“The accused was a bodybuilder, but due to drug addiction, he became a thief. Two previous cases are registered against him in Gurugram under sections of theft, assault, and criminal intimidation. He has also been declared a bail jumper for failing to appear in court in a theft case. We are questioning the accused,” said a senior police officer.
