Man burnt alive after fire breaks out in Gurugram slum
Eyewitnesses say the fire spread rapidly, giving Robin no chance to escape
A 40-year-old man was burnt alive after a fire broke out in a slum in Sector 53 area here late Tuesday night. In the initial investigation, the police have determined the cause of the fire to be a short circuit.
The deceased has been identified as Robin Das, originally from West Bengal, who had been working as a labourer in the area for some time.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread rapidly, giving Robin no chance to escape. The flames engulfed the entire slum within minutes. He was alone at the time of the accident, while his daughter and son-in-law lived in another nearby slum.
On receiving information, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to other nearby slums.
However, by the time the fire was extinguished, Robin had died. Police recovered the body from the debris and sent it to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
A senior police officer said a detailed investigation is under way to confirm the exact cause of the fire. Further proceedings are in progress.
