​Miscreant arrested with Thar bearing fake number plate in Nuh

Nuh police arrested one alleged miscreant, while four of his associates, who were travelling in a black Thar bearing a fake number plate, managed to escape. Police recovered the vehicle, a country-made pistol and 13 suspected stolen mobile phones. An FIR has been registered at the Ferozpur Jhirka Sadar police station.

According to the police, a team was patrolling the Beewa Road area on Tuesday when it received information that Taj Mohammad and Samim, residents of Jaitaka village, along with their associates, were travelling in a Thar with a fake number plate and robbing passersby of mobile phones and cash using illegal country-made pistols. The suspects were reportedly at a rest area in Baghola village after committing a robbery on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

Acting on the tip-off, the police raided the specified location. Four to five youths were found standing near a Thar vehicle. On spotting the police, they attempted to flee. Four escaped, while one, identified as Taj Mohammad, a resident of Jaitaka village, was apprehended. An Oppo mobile phone was recovered from his possession.

During a search of the black Thar parked at the spot, police found the registration number HR96-1369 displayed on the front, while there was no number plate at the rear. A bag inside the vehicle contained 13 touchscreen mobile phones, including Vivo, Oppo, Redmi and Apple handsets. All the phones were locked, and the accused failed to produce valid documents or purchase bills for them.

Police also recovered an illegal country-made pistol and two live cartridges from a green polythene bag inside the vehicle. During questioning, the accused failed to produce a licence or any valid documents for the weapon.

“During the investigation, police recovered two number plates — HR72K-9406 and HR96-1369 — from the vehicle. Verification of the chassis and engine numbers through the online portal revealed that the Thar’s original registration number was HR72K-9406, while HR96-1369 was registered to another vehicle, confirming the use of a fake number plate. Since no documents were produced for the 13 recovered mobile phones, they were separately taken into police custody on suspicion of being stolen property. We are questioning the accused and conducting raids to nab the other suspects,” said the Nuh police spokesperson.
