A mother allegedly strangled her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter to death and then attempted suicide by slitting her own throat with a blade in Surya Vihar area in last night.

According to the police, the incident took place on Monday night in Surya Vihar colony under Sector-9 A police station area. Police said the woman, identified as Neha (30), lived in Surya Vihar with her husband and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Anika.
A senior police officer said that they received information about the child's murder and the mother's suicide attempt on Monday night. A police team reached the spot and an FIR was registered at sector-9 A police station and police launched an investigation.
“The girl's body has been sent for a postmortem. The woman is awaiting consciousness. Her husband was also questioned, but he feigned ignorance. We are investigating the matter. The reason for her taking such a drastic step will only be revealed after questioning her”, said inspector Avtar Singh, SHO of Sector-9 A police station.
