Two new flyovers on cards to decongest Dwarka Expressway

In a major push to tackle mounting traffic congestion along the Dwarka Expressway corridor, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to construct two new flyovers, including a key structure at Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk in Sector 84.

The move is aimed at streamlining traffic flow between Dwarka Expressway and IMT Manesar, a stretch that routinely witnesses heavy vehicular pressure. Officials said the flyover near Dadi Sati Chowk has already received approval, while another is being actively planned at Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk, located barely 1.5 km away.

According to GMDA officials, the proposed flyovers will be three-lane structures designed to significantly reduce congestion at two of the busiest intersections on the stretch between Elan Mall and IMT Manesar. At present, both junctions act as major bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours.

Superintending Engineer Praveen Kumar said feasibility studies for the second flyover were underway and a detailed project report (DPR) was being prepared. “The tender for the Dadi Sati Chowk flyover is likely to be floated within the next week,” he said.

The project has gained momentum following directions from Haryana Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh, who recently chaired a review meeting in Gurugram and instructed officials to fast-track infrastructure solutions to improve traffic conditions. He specifically called for the construction of a flyover at Shaheed Rao Ranjit Singh Chowk in Sector 84.

Officials estimated that the construction of the new flyover would cost around ?40 crore. Once completed, the project is expected to provide seamless connectivity and reduce travel time for commuters moving between Dwarka Expressway and Manesar.

The initiative is part of GMDA’s broader plan to upgrade critical road infrastructure and support the increasing traffic load in rapidly developing sectors along the expressway. With residential and commercial activity picking up pace in New Gurugram, authorities are under pressure to deliver timely mobility solutions. Commuters and residents in the area have long demanded grade separators at these intersections, citing frequent jams and delays. The proposed flyovers are expected to offer much-needed relief and improve overall traffic management in the region.
