Jalandhar, March 27

As coronavirus cases in the state are on the rise, politicians across the region have started pitching in with monetary aid for affected areas.

After RS MP Naresh Gujral offered Civil Surgeons of Jalandhar and Kapurthala to put requests for the required equipment worth Rs 2 crore from his discretionary funds, Rajya Sabha MP Ambika Soni said today that she was ready to contribute Rs 1 crore from her MPLAD funds for the purchase of ventilators to be used for coronavirus patients in Nawanshahr.

Indian Youth Congress general secretary Amarpreet Lally said timely relief coming from MPs would provide the much-needed facilities.

Delhi North West MP Hans Raj Hans said he had already doled out a grant of Rs 50 lakh for his constituency and organised langars for the poor in the national capital, but now he wanted to come to the aid of people of his hometown.

“We have kept the dera at Nakodar closed owing to curfew. But I am taking the support of dera activists and local youth to ensure that poor people in pockets of Nakodar get their daily meals and required medical assistance on time,” he said.
