Notified speed limit on this road: 10 km/hr

The Rohtak-Sonepat road, particularly the stretch between Sheila bypass in Rohtak and Bhalauth village, continues to be in a bad shape for years together now, putting the local residents and commuters to grave inconvenience.

Having failed to get the road repaired or re-constructed in so many years, the authorities have now put up notices on especially installed boards along the particularly bad stretch of the road, advising drivers to keep the speed of their vehicles below 10 km/hour “in accordance with road conditions”.

The public notices further state that “the repair/construction work is under consideration by PWD (B&R), Rohtak”.

“Thousands of people who commute on the road have to face grave inconvenience due to the miserable condition of the road every day. However, the authorities seem indifferent to the plight of the people,” says Ramesh, a local resident.

Several other residents of Rohtak town as well as Bohar and Bhalauth villages located on the Rohtak-Sonepat road also complain of the bad condition of the road continuing for several years.

When contacted for his comments, PWD Executive Engineer Anil Rohilla maintained that the stretch of the Rohtak-Sonepat road near the JLN canal and a parallel canal between Rohtak town and Bohar village had been damaged due to leakage of water from the canals.

“As of now, we have prepared a proposal for construction of a bridge over the canals and sent the estimate for administrative approval of the higher authorities. The construction of the bridge will permanently resolve the issue,” he stated.

He maintained that the tendering process for the construction of a cemented concrete road in the problematic stretch passing through Bhalauth village in Rohtak district was also on.

The officer attributed the flooding of the Rohtak-Sonepat road passing through parts of HUDA Sectors 2, 3 and 4 to choking of the water-supply drain maintained by the Department of Public Health Engineering (PHE).

The officers concerned of the PHE Department have been apprised of the matter and this issue will also be resolved soon, he added.
