The Haryana Cabinet under Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday decided that if 10% voters in a village did not want a liquor vend and passed a resolution, the authorities would not give permission for it.

It was the second Cabinet meeting of the Khattar government since it came back to power. “In this regard we will bring an amendment to Section 31 of the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act in the Assembly on November 26,” said Khattar. He was addressing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting.

Till now, under Section 31 of the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, liquor vends could be banned in the area under gram panchayat when a resolution was passed by a majority of panches during the period between April 1 and September 30.

“But now for the next financial year, the gram sabha can decide till December 31 for disallowing liquor vends. We have decided that quorum of the gram sabha will be 10% or more voters,” said the CM.

The Cabinet also decided to submit their resolution till January 15 next year. — TNS
