117 drug traffickers held in Hansi, property worth over Rs 10 lakh attached

In a strike against narcotics and drug peddlers, the Hansi police arrested 117 persons and property worth over Rs 10 lakh was attached of the persons, indulging in the drug peddling during the year.

Hansi SP Amit Yashvardhan informed on Saturday that the police had carried out an extensive campaign against drug trafficking and major action against narcotics peddlers and also seized haul of drugs and other substances. He said the police registered a total of 40 cases under the NDPS Act, including four cases involving commercial quantity, 31 cases of intermediate quantity and five cases of small quantity and 117 accused were arrested, he said.

During the operations, the police teams also recovered 2.169-kg opium, 84.46 gm heroin, 10.146-kg poppy husk, 156.572-kg ganja, 3.97-kg charas/sulfa and 1,130 tablets, capsules and injections of intoxicating drugs.

The SP stated that continuous special drives were being conducted in identified drug-affected areas. “Sustained action is underway to dismantle drug trafficking networks at their roots,” he commented.

To break the financial backbone of the drug traffickers, movable and immovable assets worth approximately Rs 10,38,372 were attached during the year. Action was also taken against properties acquired through illegal earnings which belonged to the drug traffickers facing charges under the PIT NDPS Act.

The SP said that drugs were the biggest curse for society as they not only pushed the future of the youth into darkness but also weakend the foundation of families and society. He said the action against drug traffickers was not limited to arrests alone, but aimed at completely dismantling their illegal earnings, networks and structures by effectively using strict laws such as the NDPS Act and PIT NDPS Act. He also urged common citizens to pass on information about the drug trafficking to the police and assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.

He said under the recently launched ‘Operation Hotspot Domination’, the police conducted extensive combing operations with sniffer dog teams to curb drug abuse and criminal activities in various areas.

Yashvardhan said a special search operations were carried out at various sensitive locations in Ward numbers 11, 12 and 13 of the Narnaund police station area and also took the sniffer dog teams at hideouts of drug users.
