The Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has launched an anti-encroachment drive to clear roads in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri, with 13 shopkeepers fined during action on key stretches in Yamunanagar.
During the drive, MCYJ teams issued challans to 13 shopkeepers for encroaching on Workshop Road and Railway Road and collected fines on the spot. Shopkeepers were warned that goods placed on roads in future would be confiscated.
The action was carried out on the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner. Two separate teams were formed for the exercise, led by Chief Sanitary Inspector Harjeet Singh in Zone-1 and Chief Sanitary Inspector Vinod Beniwal in Zone-2.
According to officials, a team comprising Sanitation Inspectors Govind Sharma, Sushil Sharma and Satbir Singh removed encroachments along Workshop Road and Railway Road.
“The team first took action on Workshop Road from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk to the bus stand. Thereafter, the team began removing encroachments from the roadside from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk to Railway Station Chowk,” Sanitation Inspector Govind Sharma said.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar said the civic body was making sustained efforts to keep the twin cities clean and orderly.
“Special cleanliness drives, anti-encroachment drives, beautification of road dividers, and cleaning of drains and sewers are being carried out in the twin cities,” he said.
He added that the administration was working to make the cities garbage-free and encroachment-free, and appealed to shopkeepers not to place goods on roads.
“Encroachments narrow roads and disrupt traffic. They also create difficulties for the public while crossing,” Kumar said.
