Politics over toll plaza

The upcoming toll barrier at Gadpuri village of the Prithla block of Palwal district seems to have emerged as a poll issue this time. The spot is located midway between Faridabad and Palwal cities. Congress MLA from Palwal, Karan Singh Dalal, has already registered his protest over the new toll barrier. “Though it is claimed that it (toll plaza) is a part of the six-laning project of the National Highway-2, it has emerged as a poll issue since people are upset over the costly travel which will affect thousands of residents,” said Anup Chaudhary, a regular commuter. “We have been seeking the removal of the toll plaza at Tumsara village between Palwal and Hodal already. The move to set up a new one at Gadpuri will adversely affect everyone,” says Jitender Tewatia, president, Palwal Electronics Association. Both toll plazas would be raised as election issues, said Pawan Rawat a political activist.

‘Kavi sammelan’

A ‘kavi sammelan’ was organised in memory of Kargil war heroes at Kurukshetra’s Multi Art Cultural Centre. Poets, including Gauri Mishra and Prem Pal Sagar, recited poems highlighting the supreme sacrifice made by the Army personnel. After paying tributes to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, the poets said there was a need to inculcate the values of patriotism and self-discipline among the younger generation. A cultural event was organised by the Haryana Sahitya Akademi, North Zone Cultural Centre and Shri Sanatan Vidyapeeth. Devanshu Sharma, a city resident who has recently been appointed as a Civil Judge in Gujarat, presided over the function.

Video-conferencing facility

Punjab and Haryana High Court and Administrative Judge, Arun Palli, launched the facility of video-conferencing at the office of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at Narnaul recently. “The facility will make the process of interaction between the undertrial and their legal aid counsels easier. Judge Palli also interacted with the prisoners through video-conferencing,” said Vivek Yadav, CJM-cum-secretary of the DLSA, adding that the facility would also be useful in getting all necessary information about prisoners without visiting the jail.
