Police have arrested two members of a cyber-fraud gang involved in duping a woman from Rohtak of Rs 1.90 lakh on the pretext of offering a work-from-home job. The action came following registration of an FIR on the complaint of Annu.

Cyber police station SHO Kuldeep Singh said the complainant received a message offering a work-from-home opportunity on July 9, 2025. After Annu showed interest, she was asked to post reviews on restaurant links and was sent task links through Telegram.

Initially, after completing a task, Annu received Rs 180. She was then given 20 more tasks and was paid Rs 200 upon completion. On July 10, 2025, she was added to a Telegram group where she was assigned prepaid tasks. The fraudsters created a digital wallet for her and asked her to deposit money to complete tasks.

The wallet displayed higher profits, which convinced her to invest more. She subsequently transferred Rs 90,000 in multiple transactions.

When she attempted to withdraw the funds, she was informed that her digital wallet had been frozen due to a technical error and that an additional Rs 1 lakh deposit was required to restore access. Trusting the callers, she transferred the amount.

Subsequently, she was again told that the wallet remained frozen and was asked to deposit a further Rs 1.60 lakh. It was at this stage that she realised she had fallen victim to fraud.

Following a preliminary investigation, the police arrested two accused — Baljeet and Sandeep, both residents of Uttarakhand, on February 23.  Further investigation is ongoing.
