2 robbed of Rs 4.5 cr on Rewari highway

In a daring highway robbery, two employees of a Gujarat firm were allegedly abducted and robbed of Rs 4.5 crore in cash before being dumped in the fields in the district last night.

The employees of P Vijay Kumar Company, Ahmedabad, were driving back to Gujarat from Delhi when they were attacked near Dharuhera, around 70 km from Delhi, by a dozen armed men travelling in three cars.

After robbing the two of their cash, car and mobiles phones, the assailants fastened their hands and legs and dumped them in the fields near the Rajasthan border. They later freed themselves and reached a roadside dhaba before calling the police.

In a complaint filed with the police, Karan Patel, a driver with the company, claimed that he along with another employee Gajender Rathore was travelling to Ahmedabad from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk with company’s Rs 4.5 crore cash in a car.

“We left Chandni Chowk around 7 pm. When we were somewhere near Dharuhera, my boss called us up. Just then, I saw three cars tailing us. Within minutes they boxed our car in from three sides, forcing us to stop. Around 12 men came out carrying rifles and pulled us out of the car.

“They were aware of our travel plan and cash as they said they had been waiting for us. They took our car and forced us to sit in theirs. After driving for a while, they tied us up and dumped us in the fields near the Rajasthan border,” claimed Patel.

An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons under Sections 395 (dacoity) and 397 (dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC, and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Dharuhera police station. “We have formed four special teams to nab the suspects,” said Rewari SP Rahul Sharma.
