20 govt schools have zero result in Class X

The poor results in the matriculation examination of the Haryana Board of School Education, declared in My, seems to have woken up the education authorities. A report compiled by the department has shown that 20 government schools had zero result.

The department prepared a list of 121 schools which had a result of 10 per cent or less in Class X in the previous session. It prepared a list of 11 schools which had a result of 10 per cent or less in Class XII in the previous session.

Sources said 223 teachers — nine principals, nine headmasters, 102 PGTs and 103 TGTs — had been served show-cause notice due to poor performance of students. They were likely to be issued charge sheets under the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules.

Rajiv Rattan, Director, School Education, said they were analysing the causes behind the unsatisfactory results of these schools. “We have sought a detailed report. Corrective measures will follow. Accountability is being fixed and teachers of classes with poor results will be taken to task,” he said.

Among the 121 schools, 14 were only for girls. At Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Phullian Khurd village of Narwana block in Jind district, which was on the priority list of the government for quality education to girls, all 14 girls flunked the matriculation examination.

Sarpanch Jaipal Singh said villagers were upset after the result. “The school authorities have said there is no teacher for mathematics, science and English. While the government and school authorities have the standard excuse of shortage of teachers, students suffers due to the apathy towards them,” he said.

Palwal district had the highest number of schools having less than 10 per cent pass percentage. Of these 34 schools in the district, no student was promoted to the next class in five. Four schools in Jhajjar district and two each in Rohtak and Sonepat districts were in the category of zero result.

Anil Kumar, sarpanch of Bassai village in Mahendragarh, said the village was a part of the constituency of Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma. He said all 29 students of the government senior secondary school in the village had flunked the matriculation examination though the school had adequate staff strength.
