New Delhi, December 7

The state government will double the budgetary allocation for the annual Gita Jayanti celebrations from next year.

Addressing a function to mark the completion of 5,151 years of Gita at the Red Fort here today, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said 2015 will be celebrated as ‘Gita Jayanti Varsh’ in the state. Various programmes will be organised across the state to spread awareness among the masses of the gospel enshrined in the holy book, he said.

The function was organised by voluntary organisation Global Inspiration and Enlightenment on Bhagwad Gita. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, yoga guru Ramdev, Shankaracharya and Swami Gyananand also took part in the function.

Describing the Gita as “as esteemed as the Constitution”, Khattar said: “Amendments and improvements have been made to the Constitution from time to time, but the essence of Gita is eternal and shall remain relevant to every country and culture for all times to come. The Bhagwad Gita is an eternal scripture and its teachings show the right path in every situation,” Khattar said.

He urged scholar and saints to extend their full support in organising the Gita Jayanti Samaroh. “It is a matter of pride for Haryana that Lord Krishna gave the message of Gita on the sacred land of Kurukshetra. Modiji is of the viewpoint that the land from which Lord Krishna preached the message of Gita should have a unique identity in the world,” Khattar said.
