In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a team of Anti Narcotics Cell has arrested four individuals, including three women, in connection with recovery of 5.914 gm of opium.
The seized contraband is estimated to be worth about Rs 36 lakh. The accused were reportedly involved in drug smuggling for a long time and were part of an inter-state network. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajiv Miglani told mediapersons that a team of the Anti Narcotics Cell led by the cell incharge Anil Kumar received information that two women were roaming with narcotics on Kharwan road, near Jagadhri.
He said based on the information, the team reached the spot and arrested the two women. He further said both women were searched in the presence of the duty magistrate and 5.914 kg of opium was recovered from their possession, which had a market value of Rs 36 lakh. “During the interrogation, both women were identified as Nazra Khatoon and Toofan, both residents of Bihar,” said DSP Rajiv Miglani.
He said the police investigation revealed that the said women were to supply opium to Zulfkar of Rampur Combayan village (Yamunanagar district) and Pramila of Muzfat village (Yamunanagar district). “The team acted swiftly and arrested Zulfkar and Pramila also from near Jagadhri,” the DSP said.
He said a case had been registered against all four accused at City police station, Jagadhri.
