In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell has arrested four individuals, including three women, in connection with the recovery of 5.914 kg of opium.
The seized contraband is estimated to be worth about Rs 36 lakh.
The accused were reportedly involved in drug smuggling for a long time and were part of an inter-state network.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajiv Miglani said a team led by Anti-Narcotics Cell incharge Anil Kumar received information that two women carrying narcotics were moving along Kharwan Road near Jagadhri.
He said that based on this information, the team reached the spot and arrested the two women. They were searched in the presence of a duty magistrate, and 5.914 kg of opium was recovered from their possession.
“During interrogation, the women were identified as Nazra Khatoon and Toofan, both residents of Bihar,” said the DSP.
Further investigation revealed that the opium was to be supplied to Zulfkar of Rampur Combayan village and Pramila of Muzfat village in Yamunanagar district.
“The team acted swiftly and arrested Zulfkar and Pramila from near Jagadhri,” Miglani said.
A case has been registered against all four accused at the city police station in Jagadhri.
