4,166 cases settled in lok adalat

FARIDABAD: A special lok adalat held in Faridabad on Saturday led to the resolution of 4,166 cases. Nine benches were set up to deal with cases pertaining to accidents, family disputes, labour laws, and power supply disputes among others and the adalat resolved all cases amicably, said Mona Singh, CJM and secretary, District Legal Services Authority.

FARIDABAD: A special lok adalat held in Faridabad on Saturday led to the resolution of 4,166 cases. Nine benches were set up to deal with cases pertaining to accidents, family disputes, labour laws, and power supply disputes among others and the adalat resolved all cases amicably, said Mona Singh, CJM and secretary, District Legal Services Authority. She said while a compensation of Rs 94 lakh was announced in various cases, the benches imposed a penalty of Rs 48 lakh on a few others. 

Electrician most sought-after trade

Faridabad: As many as 3,311 applications have been received against 60 seats for the electrician course at two ITIs in Faridabad. The ITI in the NIT here has 40 seats and has received 2,648 applications. The number of applications received in another ITI, which has only 20 seats, is 663. Other trades, including computer operator and programme assistant, electrician, fitter, plumber, welder, mechanic, wiremen, sheet metal worker, draughtsman (civil), turner, and stenography are also being offered at ITIs. 

Warm welcome for Sonepat wrestler

Sonepat: Sonam, who won the silver medal in the four-day Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship held in Kazakhstan, was accorded warm welcome when she returned to Netaji Subhash Chander Bose Sports Academy at Madina village in the district on Saturday. Moi Huda village sarpanch Jagdish Bhardwaj, manager of the academy Ajmer Malik and other wrestlers were present on the occasion. In the 65-kg category, Sonam defeated a Chinese wrestler in the quarterfinals and a Kazak wrestler in the semifinals. She lost to a Japanese wrestler in the finals. 

Honour for former HAU professor

Ambala: Prof Kuldip Singh Dhindsa, former head of the department of chemistry and bio-chemistry, and the Dean of the basic sciences, Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, has been conferred with the lifetime achievement award for his contribution to pure chemistry and improvement of nutritional quality of cereals and pulses. The award was given by Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad at the inaugural function of the first Global Congress on Biotechnology and Crop Science held at Gangtok, Sikkim. Prof Dhindsa has to his credit over 160 research publications. 

Indonesian scientist to do research at CUH 

Mahendragarh: Rusli Fidriyanto, a scientist at the Research Centre of Biotechnology, Indonesian Institute of Science, Indonesia, will carry out research at the Central University of Haryana (CUH) here under the ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship scheme. “Fidriyanto will be working on the extraction of dietary fibre from apple pomace and their utilisation as prebiotic substrates for probiotics. He will spend five months on the campus to conduct the research,” said Prof RC Kuhad. 

Student releases book on battling depression

Hisar: Sirsa Deputy Commissioner Ashok Garg on Sunday released a book on mental health ‘Shhh Don’t Talk About Mental Health. Why Being Quite is No Longer An Option’ written by 21-year-old BA applied psychology student Arjun Gupta. The writer, an outstanding student who cracked the AIPMT and pursued medical sciences to be a doctor like his father Dr ND Gupta, battled depression after schooling. He left MBBS and pursued psychology in Ramanujan College in Delhi. Describing his feelings, Arjun said he passed through a dark phase where he had decided to end his life. “But I fought back and wrote a book to share some of my feelings and experiences,” he said. Garg said the book would prove to be an asset in the field of mental health issues.
