4 held for robbing advocate at gunpoint in Kurukshetra
Rs 5.50 lakh recovered; one accused was allegedly involved in theft at same house in March
The Kurukshetra police have arrested four persons for allegedly barging into the house of a senior advocate and robbing him and his wife at gunpoint.
The accused have been identified as Kamal and Prince, both from Panipat, and Sahil and Ansh Jain, both from Sonepat. The police have recovered Rs 5.50 lakh from them.
Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Chander Mohan said advocate Balwant Singh Walia, in his complaint lodged on August 7, stated that four robbers had entered his house on the night of August 6 when he had gone out for a walk with his dog.
The robbers allegedly held Walia and his wife hostage. Two of them were carrying weapons. They reportedly took away cash, jewellery, bullets for the advocate’s licensed revolver and other valuables.
A case was registered at the Thanesar City police station and the investigation was handed over to teams of CIA-1 and CIA-2.
The SP said all four accused were arrested on Monday and Rs 5.50 lakh was recovered from them. They would be taken on police remand for the recovery of the remaining valuables.
“This was a blind robbery case in which the accused had left no clues behind. They were wearing masks, the vehicle used in the crime had no number plate and surveillance cameras had been damaged. Despite these challenges, the district police teams performed commendably to crack the case and arrest all the accused,” he said.
The SP said one of the accused was also allegedly involved in a theft at the same house on March 20. The police will also investigate the past records of the other accused.
According to the police, the accused had held advocate Balwant Singh Walia and his wife hostage and fled with cash, jewellery and other valuables worth around Rs 3.25 crore. The stolen property included around Rs 17.20 lakh in cash, approximately 2 kg of gold and about 4 kg of silver.
Walia had earlier claimed that his family suffered a loss of around Rs 50 lakh in the March theft.
