The Special Task Force (STF) of the local unit of the Haryana Police arrested four wanted criminals associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and seized country-made pistols and cartridges from their possession on Friday.
According to the STF, Ambala, acting on a tip-off, the team surrounded the shooters near the national highway around Umri village of Kurukshetra. During checking, three country-made pistols and seven cartridges were seized from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Gagan and Naresh Kumar of Mahendragarh, Jayant Kumar of Rajasthan, and Sahil of Kaithal. They were produced before a court today, which sent them to 10-day police custody.
The STF claimed that the accused were planning to carry out a shooting related to extortion at a toll plaza on the Rewari-Narnaul highway, at the behest of gangsters Nitin Fauji and Rambir Jat; and a major crime in Ranchi at the behest of gangster Mayank, alias Sunil Meena.
Gagan had previously been imprisoned in Panipat jail in connection with a murder case, and Jayant, too, had been in Alwar and Ajmer jails in connection with a murder case. Both were out on bail and were allegedly committing crimes to strengthen the Bishnoi gang.
DSP (Ambala STF) Aman Kumar said a case had been registered against the accused at Sadar Thanesar police station.
