The team of the MCYJ also collected a fine of Rs 3,000 from the shopkeepers and confiscated the recovered polythene. The action was taken on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad.

Separate teams have been formed under the leadership of Chief Sanitation Inspector (CSI) Harjeet Singh in Zone-1 and CSI Vinod Beniwal in Zone-2 to curb open waste disposal and the use of banned polythene.

Harjeet Singh said the teams of the MCYJ were regularly conducting raids in the markets and other areas of the twin cities.

He said a team raided Pansari Bazaar, Sawanpuri, Railway Bazaar, Hanuman Gate, Kundi Talab Park and Chunna Bhatti road in Jagadhri.

He further said during the raid, banned polythene was found in the possession of a shopkeeper at Pansari Bazaar and Inspector Amit Kamboj issued an on-the-spot challan to the shopkeeper and confiscated the recovered polythene.

“The MCYJ team also found garbage outside three shops on Railway road. Investigation revealed that the shopkeepers had dumped the garbage in the open outside their shops. The team also issued challans to all three shopkeepers. The team members advised them to collect the waste in dustbins,” said Harjeet Singh.

He added that the team also found garbage outside a liquor shop near Kundi Talab Park and the team members issued a challan to the shop’s employee on the spot.

The CSI said the garbage was also found outside a liquor shop on Chunna Bhatti road; therefore, the team members issued a challan to the shop’s employee and advised him to dispose of the garbage only in dustbins.

“Do not pollute the environment by throwing garbage in the open. If littering is found again in future, a fine of up to Rs 10,000 will be issued,” said Harjeet Singh appealing to the public to put waste of their homes and shops in separate dustbins and dispose of the waste only in the municipal corporation vehicles.
