5 properties sealed for non-payment of property tax in Yamunanagar

The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), has sealed five properties, including a closed factory, for non-payment of outstanding property tax in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. The owners of these properties owe Rs 14.06 lakh property tax to the MCYJ.

Ten days ago, the MCYJ had sealed 13 properties, including an engineering college. According to information, the MCYJ issued notices to the owners of property having property tax of more than Rs 1 lakh, a few months ago.

After getting notices, some property owners paid the tax, but those who failed to pay, their properties were being sealed. On the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad, separate teams have been formed for the Yamunanagar zone and Jagadhri zone. According to information, a team led by Regional Taxation Officer Ajay Walia and Jitender Malhotra first reached Chandpur Colony on late Monday evening.

At Chandpur Colony, the team sealed a closed factory as the factory owners owed a total of Rs 393,563 property tax to the Municipal Corporation. Subsequently, the MCYJ team sealed a shop at Jain Colony, which owed property tax of Rs 173,787. Thereafter, the team of the MCYJ reached Vishwakarma Chowk and sealed two shops. One shop owner owed the corporation Rs 1,70,908 and the other owed Rs 2,13,000.

Later, the team sealed a shop in Model Town as the owner of the said shop owed Rs 4,55,058 property tax.

“All five defaulters owe Rs 14,06,316 property tax to the MCYJ. After sealing the properties, the MCYJ team also pasted warning notices issuing warning that legal action would be taken if the seal was tampered with or attempted to be opened without the corporation’s permission,” said Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad. He said the property owners should pay their outstanding property tax to avoid sealing action.

He further said those persons whose properties were sealed had been warned by issuing notices several times.

“The defaulters were called to the MCYJ office for a hearing for non-payment of taxes. The sealing action was taken if the property tax remained unpaid even after the hearing,” said Mahabir Parsad.

He said the properties having property tax arrears of more than Rs 1 lakh would be sealed. “The MCYJ will soon take action to seal marriage palaces, banquet halls and other big establishments,” said Parsad.
