Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, on Wednesday organised an award distribution ceremony to honour its sportspersons for national-level achievements. The event was held at the Tagore Lecture Theatre on the university campus.
Rajesh Kumar, a noted industrialist and social worker from Panipat, attended the programme as the chief guest. During the ceremony, 69 athletes from the University Teaching Department and 10 affiliated colleges were presented cash awards amounting to Rs 15 lakh.
The players were honoured for their performances in All India Inter-University Tournaments, in which they represented CDLU at the national level. Athletes securing first place received Rs 25,000 each, second-place winners were awarded Rs 21,000, while those finishing third received Rs 18,000.
Addressing the gathering, Rajesh Kumar said that sports were not merely about winning or losing but played a vital role in shaping better human beings. He said discipline, honesty, patience, teamwork and self-control were essential qualities for a good sportsperson. He also urged students to stay away from drugs, protect the environment and draw inspiration from the lives of great personalities such as Dr BR Ambedkar.
Presiding over the ceremony, CDLU Vice-Chancellor Prof Vijay Kumar congratulated the players and said sports and music played an important role in overall personality development.
