7-yr-old wins silver in karate

SONEPAT: Seven-year-old Krishnang Tandon (in pic) from Kundli in Sonepat district has won silver medal in the under-8 category of the Winner Cup, 2018, organised under the aegis of the International Karate Championship at Abu Dhabi in the UAE recently.

Sonepat: Seven-year-old Krishnang Tandon (in pic) from Kundli in Sonepat district has won silver medal in the under-8 category of the Winner Cup, 2018, organised under the aegis of the International Karate Championship at Abu Dhabi in the UAE recently. He was accorded warm welcome on his return to India and Sonepat. His father Abhishek Tandon said children from India, the Philippines, Oman, and the UAE participated in the event. Krishnang has won 29 medals in different karate events at the national and international level. “Krishnang is being trained by Vijay Kumar of the International Karate Federation of India,” he said.

Yamunanagar surgeon honoured  

Yamunanagar: Dr Anil Aggarwal, an eminent surgeon, has been honoured by the Association of Surgeons of India for devising a better technique for the removal of gall bladder stone. He was felicitated during a conference at Kaithal recently. More than 125 professors of various medical colleges of the country and hundreds of surgeons of the region discussed the latest emerging trends in the field of surgery. In the technique devised by him, the patient is given just one stitch and can be discharged in a few hours. He has been previously honoured 12 times by Governors of Haryana and various ministers at the state and national level. A philanthropist, he has performed more than 500 surgeries free of cost. 

Support for INLD breakaway faction

Hisar: Ram Kumar Gautam, who has contested multiple elections from the Narnaund segment in the district, has announced his support to the breakaway faction of the INLD led by Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala. Gautam won the 2004 elections as a BJP nominee, then lost two consecutive polls contested on the Congress ticket in 2009 and as an Independent in 2014. He has a strong dislike for former chief minister OP Chautala, who had ensured his defeat in the 2000 elections despite having an alliance with the BJP. Though Gautam as a BJP nominee was the candidate of the BJP-INLD alliance, Chautala worked against him and ensured victory of Rambhagat Sharma, an Independent candidate. Known as a motormouth, Gautam has been vocal in his criticism of Chautala and recalled at a meeting held on Sunday how he (Chautala) backstabbed him. However, he said Chautala’s grandsons Dushyant and Digvijay were honest and thus he had decided to join them. He urged his followers to reach Jind to join the new party on December 9. 

Free food coupons for poor 

Rewari: Under its initiative to provide free food to the needy, the district administrative last week distributed food coupons among 40 persons, who would be able to use these to have food at the dhabas earmarked for the purpose in the city. Deputy Commissioner Ashok Sharma said the programme was being run through the District Red Cross Society and the needy would have to register at the society’s office for getting coupons regularly. “Five dhabas have been earmarked in the city to provide food to the coupon-holders. One coupon will get them food twice in a day up to a week,” said Sharma, adding that the initiative aimed at ensuring food to everyone in the district. 

Solar power plant inaugurated 

Kaithal: Chief Minister  Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated a 120 KW solar power plant and laid the foundation stone for the extension of the building of RKSD (PG) College here on Thursday. Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister hailed the contribution of the college in higher education. He said without proper education, individuals and society could not progress.  The Chief Minister announced a grant of Rs 51 lakh to the college from his discretionary funds for development projects. Principal Sanjay Goyal said the solar plant would fulfill 90 per cent of electricity requirement of the college. He presented a brief report on the ongoing projects and the proposed future action plans of the college. 

DLSA event on rights of special children

Kaithal: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organised an awakening camp under “The living star programme”, in senior secondary school, Pundri, recently. Man Pal Ramawat, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, DLSA, provided information to students and their parents about various schemes launched by the government for special children. He said all such children had the right to equality and separate laws were in force to safeguard their interests. Such children cannot be victimised and they had equal fundamental rights. They should be dealt with respect and dignity. Panel advocate Vijay Pal Tanwar and the school staff was present on the occasion
