Faridabad, August 18
The district administration has started the removal of publicity material related to political parties in the city and the district after the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct for the Assembly elections due
in October.
While a large amount of material was removed in the past 48 hours, the remaining work of taking down posters, banners and advertisements related to political persons or parties would be cleared within the next 24 hours, said an official of the district administration.
He said the directions had been already passed by the Deputy Commissioner, who was also the District Election Officer in this regard. He added that no advertising material regarding the government schemes and its achievements was allowed to remain on the premises of the Mini-Secretariat, SDM offices, tehsils, sub-tehsils, Municipal Corporation, Block Development and Panchayat Officer's workplace.
According to the regulations, the district authorities are required to submit a compliance report to the Election Commission of India within a stipulated time period. Any kind of negligence would not be tolerated and the department concerned heads would be held accountable for any violation if found.
It may be recalled that a poster war had erupted recently, with aspiring candidates putting up their pictures on all the available spaces in the city and the district resulting in severe defacement of properties in the form of posters, banners and hoardings that have appeared on electric poles, streetlights, tree guards, road dividers, walls and buildings on almost every road or locality in the city.
