After Under-19 cricket glory, Haryana's lad Kanishk gets hero's welcome on home turf

Kanishk Chauhan, a member of India’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup-winning team, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome on reaching his ancestral village Kulana on Monday. Villagers lifted him on their shoulders and celebrated his arrival with drums and cheers. Congress MLA Kuldeep Vats from Badli also joined the celebrations to congratulate the young cricketer.

Speaking to the media, Kanishk credited the World Cup victory to the collective efforts of the entire Under-19 team. “Winning the World Cup was possible because of all players of Team India,” he said. He also urged the youth to stay away from drugs and keep working hard with dedication.

“I am proud of my son. He has fulfilled my dream. First, he will showcase his talent in the upcoming IPL and later on the ICC stage,” said Sarita Chauhan, a proud mother,

His mother further said, “Kanishk had shown a passion for cricket since childhood and never let go of hard work and discipline, no matter how difficult the circumstances. My son’s achievement has brought pride not only to the family but also to the entire village. Kanishk began his cricketing journey in Sirsa. After nearly 10 years of continuous hard work and perseverance, he has achieved this remarkable success.”

His coach, Jaskaran Singh, described him as an extremely talented player. “Kanishk has already played international cricket for the past eight months. With his talent and dedication, he will soon represent Team India (Senior) and make the country proud,” he said.

Kanishk made a significant contribution in the ICC Under-19 Men’s World Cup final against England. He scored 37 runs off 20 balls, including three fours and one six, helping India reach a record total of 411. In addition, he also claimed wickets in the match.

During the welcome ceremony, the villagers blessed him and wished him a bright future. The elders said that Kanishk’s success would inspire a renewed enthusiasm for sports among the local children. They expressed hope that in the coming years, Kanishk will secure a place in the national senior team as well, bringing recognition to the village and district at the international level.
