Panipat, July 3
Satyapal Malik, Governor of Meghalaya, on Sunday pulled up the BJP-led Union government over the Agnipath scheme and farmers’ movement. He said the scheme was wrong, bent on ruining soldiers.
People of Malik Khap’s villages Seenk, Pathri, Achra Kalan, Ram Nagar and Kurad village and members of the Samyukta Kisan Sangharsh Samiti honoured the Governor at a programme held at Tirkhu Tirth in Seenk village.
Governor Malik, while addressing the gathering, said no one was happy among farmers and soldiers. Taking a dig at the Union government, Malik said the Central government had first destroyed farmers, and now it was bent on ruining the soldiers. The farmers had won half of the battle, but the remaining was yet to be fought as the law had not been made on the MSP so far, he added.
Malik said the four-year Agnipath scheme brought by the government was wrong. A soldier recruited for four years would be on leave for six months in four years. After the completion of the four years, he would be sent back home and would not be able to do anything that time.
Malik said his term of the Governor would end in the next 2-3 months, but he would stay with truth. He would not contest any elections after the end of his term, but his fight for the rights of the farmers and soldiers would continue.
