Ahead of Holi, Haryana Police crack down on criminals

‘Operation Aakraman-21’: 1,048 arrested in statewide drive

Ahead of the festival of Holi, Haryana Police launched a statewide special drive titled ‘Operation Aakraman-21’, registering 461 cases and arresting 1,048 accused in a single day.

The operation, conducted on March 2, involved simultaneous raids by 1,460 teams comprising 7,471 police personnel across the state. Cases were registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), NDPS Act, Excise Act and Arms Act.

DGP Ajay Singhal said the crackdown sent a strong message that law and order remained paramount in the state. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Haryana Police is fully committed to maintaining robust law and order in the state,” he stated.

He added that special drives like ‘Operation Aakraman-21’ reflect the force’s zero-tolerance policy against criminals and anti-social elements. “Keeping in view the upcoming festival of Holi, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure that citizens celebrate the festival in a safe and fear-free environment,” he said.

The DGP reiterated that action against illicit liquor trade, drug trafficking, organised crime and illegal arms would continue unabated. “No offender will be spared at any cost,” he asserted.

Under the Excise Act, 299 FIRs were registered and 293 accused arrested. Police seized 1,539 bottles of English liquor, 1,970 bottles of country liquor, 292 bottles of beer and 8,276 litres of lahan.

Under the NDPS Act, 46 FIRs were registered and 41 accused apprehended. Seizures included 25.189 kg of ganja, 500 grams of opium, 191 grams of heroin, 5.050 kg of poppy husk, 34.64 grams of smack, 306 grams of charas, 332.18 grams of sulfa, 390 intoxicant tablets and 135 capsules.

In cases registered under the Arms Act, 19 FIRs were lodged and 16 accused arrested. Police recovered 20 country-made pistols and 11 cartridges.

Additionally, the drive led to the arrest of 67 criminals, including 61 proclaimed offenders, 101 bail jumpers, five most wanted criminals, one reward-carrying criminal, one cybercriminal and one heinous offender. Police also executed 68 non-bailable warrants and 48 arrest warrants.
