Ambala woman killed after car driven by Haryana cop runs her over

A 24-year-old woman was killed after the e-rickshaw she was travelling in was allegedly struck by a speeding car driven by a policeman, throwing her onto the road and subsequently crushing her, in Ambala late on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Nikita Bajaj, a resident of Ambala. She worked in Gurugram and had returned home on Wednesday.

She was travelling with her brother when the e-rickshaw was hit by a car driven by a police head constable.

Relatives of the deceased alleged that the policeman was in an inebriated condition. They claimed that due to his negligence, the e-rickshaw was struck, causing Nikita to fall out and be crushed under the wheels of the car.

However, police said the matter is under investigation.

The driver was apprehended at the spot and handed over to the police.

Nikita was rushed to Civil Hospital Ambala City, where she was declared dead. As the news spread, a large number of relatives and locals gathered at the hospital, demanding action against the accused.

They insisted that the policeman be produced before them and sought an immediate medical report. Security was subsequently tightened, and the family members were later pacified.

Ravinder Singh, the e-rickshaw driver, stated that he was traveling from Ambala Cantonment to Ambala City with four passengers when the e-rickshaw was hit from the rear. The impact caused Nikita to fall out of the vehicle.
