Sainik School Kunjpura organised its 62nd annual athletic meet on Wednesday, in which cadets showcased their athleticism, enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Principal Capt (IN) Gurbir Singh was the chief guest.

The event began with a grand opening ceremony, the highlight of which was the magnificent march past, where the cadets marched in perfect synchrony and the chief guest took the salute before addressing the gathering. He encouraged the cadets to uphold the values of determination, discipline and teamwork both on and off the field.

The house flags were ceremoniously hoisted, symbolising unity and pride. The atmosphere grew even more electrifying as torch bearers — Cadet Vivek Patel, Cadet Jatin and Cadet Aditya — passed the athletic flame which was finally lit by cadet Krish, marking the official commencement of the meet. After this, the cadets took part in the oath-taking ceremony, pledging to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, fairness and integrity.

The day’s sporting events then began with a series of thrilling competitions that kept the audience on the edge of their seats — 200m run, triple jump, high jump, javelin throw, 800m run, 400m run and 1500m run. Each event showcased the remarkable fitness, perseverance, and determination of the cadets.

In the 200 metre race of senior division, Vidyanshu of Panipat House secured first place, while Ekjot of Chillianwala House and Yug of Kurukshetra House stood second and third, respectively. Raushan of Chillianwala House won the Junior Division and Arav emerged victorious in the Holding House Division. Aman, Naman and Rakesh claimed first positions in triple jump, high jump and javelin throw, respectively. In the 800 metre race, Ayushman of Chillianwala House finished first, followed by Prince of Thaneshwar House. The 400 metre race of girls saw Anandita take the lead for Kalpana Chawla House, while in the 1500 metre race, Devansh clinched the top spot.

Vice Principal Lt Col Nirmal Jeet Singh and the event in-charge Mukesh Sharma, along with the entire staff, lent their unwavering support, ensuring the smooth conduct of the events and cheering on the participants throughout.

The athletic meet’s closing ceremony will be held on November 14.
