Army jawan cremated with honours in Yamunanagar

The mortal remains of Army jawan Sudhir Narwal, who was killed in a road accident in J&K's Doda district, were consigned to the flames with full military and state honours at his native Sherpur village in Yamunanagar district on Friday.
His seven-year-old son, Ayansh, lit the funeral pyre, leaving people overwhelmed with grief.
Narwal and nine other jawans were killed when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge on January 22.
His body was brought to the village today. Hundreds of people started assembling at his house in the morning. Elected representatives and senior officials also paid their last respects to the soldier.

Cabinet minister Shyam Singh Rana, Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora, former minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar, BJP district president Rajesh Sapra, ADC Naveen Ahuja, ASP Amrinder Singh, Chhachhrauli SDM Rohit Kumar and Bilaspur DSP Harvinder Singh, among others, paid floral tributes.
Shyam Singh Rana assured the family that the government would extend all possible assistance to them.
Narwal's wife Rubi and mother Urmila Devi were inconsolable since they received the news of his death.
A family member said Narwal had nurtured the dream of joining the Army since childhood. He joined the Army in 2016, leaving college midway.
He last visited home in November to attend a wedding, and was scheduled to return home on January 27.
Narwal, who lost his father about eight years ago, was the youngest sibling, with two elder sisters, who are both married.
