The police have arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on the charge of sexually abusing a woman sub-inspector at a police station in the district.

SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa suspended the ASI after a case was registered under various sections of the IPC and the SC-ST Act. The SP has ordered the DSP to inquire into the matter.

The victim told the SP that ASI Satish was deployed to train her for investigations and case studies at the police station where she was posted.

She alleged that the ASI grabbed her and molested her while she was sitting in a room. When she opposed him, he abused her with casteist remarks and threatened her with dire consequences.

Following the SP’s order, the police nabbed the suspect today and produced him in a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Randhawa said a case had been registered against ASI Satish under various sections of the IPC and the SC-ST Act.

He said DSP (City) Ravinder Kumar was investigating the matter.
